Dominique Portet Winery

  • 1698

The Dominique Portet label features an emblem with special meaning for the Portet family. It takes the form of an arabesque, a sinuous unbroken line that is characteristic of Moorish decoration. It symbioses the links and close bonds between generations, families and continents.

The form comes from jewellery crafted by famous Greek jeweller Ilias Lalaounis, the only jeweller to be welcomed as an associate of the Academia des Beaux-Arts of the Institute de France in Paris. He has given his permission for the form to be reproduced on the Dominique Portet label.

Ilias Lalaounis has boutiques in Athens, Paris, London, Geneva, Zurich, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo. His work has been exhibited internationally and at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. The Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery Museum is situated in Athens on the site of his father’s atelier, his legacy to his home country.

Dominique Portet’s wife Julia met the Lalaounis family when she was a student, a friendship that has evolved over decades, and is encapsulated in her special pair of earrings that were the inspiration for the Dominique Portet insignia.

This shape suggests grace, strength, purity of line, and unbroken bonds. These are the qualities Dominique Portet seeks to embody in his wines.
